Pupil Premium funding/Free School Meal funding

Could your child be eligible?

If your family is entitled to Free School Meals (FSM), your child could also attract valuable Pupil Premium funding for our school. This additional government funding enables us to provide targeted support, resources and opportunities to help pupils achieve their full potential.

Applying is quick and straightforward. You do not need to provide detailed income information—simply complete the online application using your National Insurance number or speak to the school office if you would like assistance. this letter.

Why should I apply?

A successful application may mean that your child is entitled to free school meals. In addition, children who meet the government’s targeted eligibility criteria attract Pupil Premium funding, which provides The Bellbird Primary School with an additional £1,550 per eligible primary-aged pupil each year to support their education and wellbeing.

This funding helps us provide additional support such as:

  • High-quality teaching and targeted intervention programmes
  • Academic resources and learning support
  • Enrichment opportunities and educational visits
  • Pastoral and wellbeing support
  • Wider opportunities to help every child flourish

Even if your child already receives Universal Infant Free School Meals in Reception, Year 1 or Year 2, we still encourage you to apply if you think you may be eligible, as the school may receive additional funding to support your child’s education.

Who is eligible?

From September 2026, all children in England whose families receive Universal Credit are eligible for Free School Meals. However, only pupils who meet the government’s targeted Free School Meal eligibility criteria attract Pupil Premium funding.

You may be eligible if you receive one of the following:

  • Universal Credit
  • Income Support
  • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA)
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
  • Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • The Guarantee Credit element of Pension Credit
  • Child Tax Credit (provided you are not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and your annual income does not exceed the government’s threshold)
  • Working Tax Credit run-on (paid for four weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit)

If you are unsure whether you qualify, we encourage you to apply. Many families are eligible without realising it, and a successful application can provide valuable additional support for both your child and our school.

For more information or assistance with your application, please contact the school office.
